Success Stories

From Chronic Pain to Pull-Ups, Tennis, and a Full Life Again

When Kelly first came to Chain Effect, she was four months post-explant and pectoral reattachment surgery after years of pain, complications, and dismissal from providers. Despite being a federal trial lawyer and a lifelong go-getter, she had been reduced to lying in bed, unable to drive without pain, and forced to miss moments like her brother’s wedding rehearsal.

Her journey began years earlier with a preventive double mastectomy and reconstruction after testing positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation. But what followed was a downward spiral of breast implant illness — implants that were later recalled — and a system that minimized her symptoms instead of helping her heal. By the time she found Chain Effect, she was desperate to rebuild strength, recover from multiple surgeries, and get back to living her life.

The Challenge

Kelly’s body had endured years of setbacks: hip pain from an old labrum repair, tightness and weakness from her chest surgery, and the deconditioning that comes from being sidelined. Previous clinics would have treated one issue at a time, discharged her when insurance stopped paying, and passed her off to aides or outside trainers. For Kelly, that approach wasn’t going to cut it.

The Solution

At Chain Effect, we addressed everything together. Dr. Taylor Pope combined manual therapy — like dry needling and myofascial work — with corrective strength training to unlock her shoulders and hips, restore proper mechanics, and hard-code new movement patterns. Instead of a handoff, Kelly got one-on-one care that built progressively from assisted pull-ups to weighted pull-ups, from kettlebell deadlifts to heavy barbell lifts, and from rehab basics to explosive performance training.

Today, Kelly is thriving, breaking personal records, and proving what’s possible when care finally connects all the pieces.

“I have my life back — and with it a new appreciation for my body.”

"Numbers Don't Lie"

”I started coming in, with what I thought was an athlete’s body, but my bench press was 95 pounds and my deadlift was 135 pounds… I can comfortably handle twice the weight on my deadlift. And my bench press has gone up over 50%.”
